HISTORY OF SCUBA DIVING

Your life changes when you start scuba diving. There’s  something  so great about breathing underwater and exploring the deep! It would not be possible to dive without the equipments of course. Can you imagine a life without scuba diving? We certainly don’t want you to!LET’S talk about history of scuba!!!

The history of scuba diving goes way back, centuries back in fact, but it took a long time before modern diving actually developed. Here’s just a short information about the history of scuba diving.

Early beginnings

Back in the old times, people discovered simple tools they could use to breathe under  water. However, they were not as effective or safe as the equipment today. One of the first stories about breathing under the water goes back  to 500BC, when a Greek soldier dived off of a ship and used a reed to breath underwater for hours.

Centuries later, the philosopher Aristotle stated that Alexander the Great found a way to hide under the water during the siege of Tyre. As a result, Alexander the Great was able to stay underwater by using a barrel.

The start of recreational  diving

After the 1700s, everyone wanted to find an effective and safe way to breathe under  water. There were many tries to create "breathing devices.” In the 1940s, however, that the world famous Jacques Cousteau and engineer Emilie Gagnan were successful in creating a rebreathing device that worked.  Later, diving became a very popular activity. Everyone wanted to experience exploring this.

 Scuba diving today

In 1966, John Cronin and Ralph Erickson both thought there should be a professional organization to make divers skilled and confident .They made a team to create the Professional Association of Diving Instructors.Since then, PADI has given a lot of  certificates around the world.

Now, we can use  modern and safe equipment and it can be also used by children.
